In mathematical expressions it is common to use symbols for variables and parameters. Ecolego uses (by default) symbols in the reports window and the information window to keep the expressions short and as close to pure mathematical notation as possible.
You can choose either assign a symbol explicitly, or to let Ecolego “create” a symbol for your object.
A symbol in Ecolego is composed of a center symbol and (potential) notations in each corner:
Top left | Top right | |
Center | ||
Bottom left | Bottom right |
For example:
i,j | |
DCC | |
k |
The window which appears when clicking a Symbol button will list the most common tokens used for symbols, like the Greek and Hebrew alphabet.
When no symbol is assigned to an object, Ecolego will use the name of the object to automatically generate a symbol. If names of greek letters appear in the name, such as in “Alpha” and “k_beta”, these will be replaced with actual greek letters. The first underscore will be used as a sub notation and every subsequent underscore will be written as a comma (’,’). For example:
Name | Symbol |
---|---|
Kd_soil | Kdsoil |
rho_soil_dry | ρsoil,dry |
Lambda_0 | Λ0 |
